Going Green is Easier Than You Think

Print “Eco-friendly” list… That was one of my choices for printing out a list of my freshly loaded coupons on my Vons club card, yes you can do that…now there is no clipping of coupons if you don’t want to do that either! There really is no end in site to the Earth Friendly things that we can do these days, and companies are winning because of it. Even the Vatican is installing solar power panels!

My job is such that I am bombarded daily with the efforts of people trying to save endangered species, we are constantly discussing what we can do to save a little bit of the world, so much so that it seems to engulfed my life to an abnormal level. Just the other day I was watching Star Wars the Clone Wars with my 6 year old only to find myself worrying about the life and ecosystem on the planet that the ill fated General Grievous’ ship was about to crash in to. But you don’t need to be so consumed to go green and show your clients that you are saving the planet AND at the same time save something else… money.

Take for instance, the “green” holiday letter I just received in my email box. Simple things such as communicating with your clients can be considered green. Most banking and bills as well as transfers of money can be done online without any paper printed. You can send e-bills, e-coupons, e-updates, you name it, and you can usually send it over email.

Refurbished or repurposed items are also now green. AT&T talks about their refurbished phones as the “Eco-conscious choice” and a way to keep cell phones out of landfills by recycling. Apple is promoting their environmentally friendly laptops. The list of companies making a commitment to improve their organizations’ effect on the environment keeps growing and the ways that they are doing this keeps growing too.

So where can you start? As the old saying goes… think big, start small. As the year draws to an end, send out an email to your clients talking about your new green new years resolutions and how they too can “go green”.

Tip for going green:
Use less paper, don’t print unless you really have to, most information can be shared and saved electronically.
